Hello Everyone,
While researching Martha's Vineyard for my work, I discovered the village of Oak Bluffs. I don't know about you, but I'd never heard of it before. Oak Bluffs is a village of about 4,000 residents on the island, home to the Martha’s Vineyard Methodist Camp Meeting Association (a religious summer revival.) There are hundreds of these colorfully painted and decorated Victorian “gingerbread” cottages there. Oak Bluffs has the most perfectly preserved collection of Carpenter Gothic-style architecture in the world. Aren't these cottages charming? Looks like a storybook village to me! Another place to put on my "list of places I want to visit!"
Have you been to Martha's Vineyard and/or Oak Bluffs? I've been to Massachusetts once, eons ago, but didn't make it to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket Island. There are so many beautiful places in our country to explore if one has the time and money! Happy weekend!
Until next time,

ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, I was fortunate to be able to spend a day on Martha's Vineyard many years ago. We took a bus trip around the island and went through Oak Bluffs. We were able to see some of the cottages. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures. I later learned that they were cottages from the Methodist Camp Meeting Association. I would love to go back to Cape Cod and Martha's Vineyard. Probably never happen though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the beautiful cottages and the history.
Have a great weekend.
These Victorian style cottages in Oak Bluffs are so charming! It would be so relaxing to spend time in Martha's Vineyard. My sister and her family live in Massachusetts, so I've been to Boston and Marlboro at the beach there, but not yet to Martha's Vineyard. I guess you have to take a ferry or boat to get there. Thank you for posting this treasure of a community!
ReplyDeleteHave a great rest of the weekend~

Happy Pink Saturday Cindy, I too would love to visit Martha's Vineyard and Oak Bluffs. I've never heard of it and I don't think it's been mentioned in some of my favorite summer beach novels. Are those houses called "painted ladies?" They are so cute, Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Linda
