Well, it took some digging, but I found the manufacturer of my latest teacup by identifying the backstamp on the website found HERE. It was made by the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory in Saint Petersburg, Russia. I fell in love with the delicate shape and design.
Well, it took some digging, but I found the manufacturer of my latest teacup by identifying the backstamp on the website found HERE. It was made by the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory in Saint Petersburg, Russia. I fell in love with the delicate shape and design.
The Lomonosov Porcelain Factory is the prior name of the current Imperial Porcelain Factory (Manufactory.) It was first established in 1744 in the town of Oranienbaum (Lomonosov.) Many collectors still refer to the Imperial Factory as Lomonosov. According to the backstamp on my cup, it was made prior to 1991.
As a novice teacup collector, I'm enjoying the research and history involved with learning about them. I'm beginning to see how one can learn to recognize the country of origin by the shapes and designs of these beautiful works of art. I hope you've enjoyed seeing the latest addition to my collection!

That is beautiful Cindy! How did you find that? The Russians make such beautiful tea sets. I miss my Russian tea set that the '94 L.A. earthquake smashed to smithereens.
ReplyDeleteYep...that's correct. Lomonosova makes very pretty porcelain. They don't so much bone china, but I just love their designs. Most folks don't know about them. I have a Russian language background so could read the backstamp when I first found them about 20 years ago. I think they are still tremendously unappreciated!

ReplyDeleteWhat a very sweet tea cup! I have a few Chintz tea cups and saucers from England, and also a couple of Paragon tea cups and saucers, and my husband bought me a complete set of Johnson Bros. Rose Chintz that you see in the movie 'Meet Me In Saint Louis' with Judy Garland. My set is new, but is made in England by Johnson Bros. probably 1995ish...a serving for twelve, with all of the serving pieces. I don't know what came over him when I asked him to buy them for me! So, yes...you and I have a LOT in common, Art, Tea, and Books!
I do need to have a tea party at my house this spring. Last year my daughter, Lavender (yes that is her name) had a tea party at our Laurelwood home, as she has a day care and the children loved the tea party!
I know, I am a crazy whimsical gal...but what else is there in life to have fun with!!!
