New Fall Projects

A couple of things I want to share with you: I've been asked to be a blogger for a local website that's all about our town! I'm so excited about this opportunity! I'll post a blog twice per month for their website about places to visit in our town/county and the surrounding area. Since taking day trips is one of my favorite pass-times anyway, this is a dream job!

I've also been working on my Zazzle.com shop and have added Autumn note cards and greeting cards that feature my paintings and photography. I've also designed several new iphone cases, as well. I'll be adding holiday cards soon, too - for those of you who still send out cards. (I should take a survey!) I admit, I don't send out nearly as many as I used to, and sometimes I miss sending and receiving them! Here's the link to my Zazzle shop and a sample of one of my autumn note cards:

Hometown Adventure

I recently took a walk around my town, specifically to take photos of some of the beautiful architecture and old homes, wrought iron fencing and gardens, etc. I'm on a quest to rediscover all my town has to offer and really look at things with "new" eyes. It's kind of amazing what's really out there...waiting to be discovered, if we just take the time to look. Here's some of what I found:

The home of my town's first millionaire. Built in 1853, and now the site of the county historical museum.

Old cobblestones beneath the crumbled blacktop

...and one of the lovely, tree-lined streets.

The Pumpkin Patch

Today was a perfect fall day to visit "the pumpkin patch," which is actually Rimelspach Farm in Fremont, Ohio. It was sunny, breezy and very cool - definitely sweater weather! I love, love, love autumn and this is one of my favorite places to visit each year. So, I twisted my sister's arm to go with me today...no, not really - she loves fall as much as I do, so it wasn't too hard at all to talk her into a spur-of-the-moment drive! Rimelspach Farm is about a half-hour from where we live.

It's a little difficult to tell from my photos, but these pumpkins were huge! Ginormous!

...and funny-shaped white gourds. From a distance, they look like popcorn!

 

 

The old wagons and wagon wheels make perfect props to display the pumpkins!

 

 

 

Back home, this is one of my little displays with a couple of the pumpkins I brought home with me. I'm really liking the white pumpkins more and more, although traditional orange will always be my favorite.

Vintage Glass Lawn Ornaments

Hello everyone,
Our weather this weekend has been absolutely gorgeous! Yesterday was 72 degrees, sunny, with a slight breeze - couldn't be better for a late summer day. Unfortunately, I've come down with a virus of some sort with a sore throat and alternating between chills and burning up! So, I'll be enjoying all that sunshine from indoors today. I want to share some photos I took last weekend at our local flea market, though. One person was selling these vintage glass lawn/garden ornaments and bottle trees. I can't decide if I like them or not? They're different...and very pretty, but that's a LOT of beautiful, vintage glassware that would look good on a dining room table! Still though, not everyone likes to use vintage table settings, so I suppose it's another good way to recyle glass. What do you think?

 

 

...and, the pumpkins are out, so we know autumn is around the corner!

More Fall Colors ~ Indian Mill

The leaves are at peak color in Northwest Ohio this week. I love autumn and can't get enough of it! I hope to get out and about later in the week. In the meantime, here's some of the color I've captured at the Indian Mill in Wyandot County, Ohio on the Sandusky River. This structure was built in 1861 to replace the original one-story building the U.S. government built in 1820 for the Wyandot Indians.

For history buffs (like me), you may enjoy seeing this old millstone located on the grounds, used by the Native Americans to grind corn prior to the mill being built.

Savouring Autumn ~

Autumn is my favorite season...well, that is until spring arrives and then that's my favorite season! Actually, I enjoy all the different seasons ~ I've even learned to appreciate winter's stark beauty. But, after the slow, humid days of summer and before the harsh, frozen months of winter, the rich colors and pungent smells of autumn are heady at times. Nap taking, chili making, pie baking rainy days followed by Indian summer's sunshine and crisp nights. If only I could make autumn last a little longer...

October is a symphony of permanence and change.

Change of Seasons

The look and feel of autumn is in the air! Mild sunny days and crisp, cold nights. Time for sweaters, scarves and putting an extra blanket on the bed at night.  My sister, niece and I took a leisurely drive on Saturday and stopped at a country farm market/pumpkin patch. I love the colors of fall! 

Here's more of what we found. Don't you just love these rusty old wagons and farm equipment filled with flowers and pumpkins?
