Hello Everyone,
I haven't posted a teacup in quite a while, but my small collection grows slowly but surely. Today, I have a "new" cup to share with you - as in "new" to me, but it's actually quite old. This is a Foley China teacup and saucer in the Glengarry Thistle pattern. Pink flowers on a light blue background with gold trim. Very pretty!
It's my understanding that Foley China was produced by several different manufacturers in England. The backstamp on my cup says "Glengarry Thistle" Foley China, English Bone China, Made in England. This dates it to between 1930-1936.
I couldn't find an actual description of this pattern online, but the flowers look like clover. The antique shop where I found it had another one just like this. I may have to go back and get it! What do you think?

That is one very pretty teacup! That shade of green is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteit is a truly stunning cup, and if it wasn't TOO price prohibitive I would suggest going back to get that other one and then call me for tea.
ReplyDeleteTea for Two with matching teacups.
I am SO there!
Definitely go back for the other...it's one of my favorites of their patterns. Foley is from the area of Staffordshire outside of Stoke-on-Trent where the Robinson pottery was from 1891-1903 (like Limoges is an area in France were lots of potteries were) when they were acquired by E. Brain & Co who decided to use the name as their trade name. They later added E&B to the Foley on some marks. In 1963 they were merged with Coalport. It's such a pretty pattern! Thanks for sharing it!

ReplyDeleteOh I do love Foley, and your Thistle cup is stunning! One thing I love to see when I am in England, standing on top of the Tor in Glastonbury is the Thistles. They bloom all over the hillside and look just like your cup! If I were you I would run back and get it's match!
